  • To provide an excellent and comprehensive undergraduate education in the field of electrical and electronics engineering to meet the Industrial and Societal demands.
  • To improve the knowledge, attitude, practical capabilities of the students.
  • To build team ethics, leadership qualities and to cater to the overall development of the students in professional and research oriented fields.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established in the year 2004. The department has a well motivated and dedicated qualified faculty. The department has a very active ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION which provides a platform to students to showcase their ability in the curricular and extra-curricular activities. The department has IEEE, SESI and ISTE professional bodies which arrange technical talks, workshops, conferences and project exhibitions. Industry-Institute Partnership Cell arranges the internship facilities to the students and also conducts the industrial tours to bridge the gap between industry and institute.

We encourage the students to carryout mini projects and present papers at various conferences through our R&D Innovation cell. This cell also helps the faculty to carry out research activities. We have a very efficient Teacher Guardian cell to provide emotional and technical support to the students. The Internal training and Placement cell in the department acts in tandem to increase the employability of the students.

The department has well equipped Power Electronics, Control systems, Microcontrollers, Circuit Simulation & Measurements, D.C. Machine & Synchronous Machines, Transformers & Induction Machines, Relay & H.V. and Power System Simulation Laboratories, spacious and well ventilated class rooms with state of the art and computing facilities. Apart from the central library in the college, the department has its own library with standard books for the reference of students and staff.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To produce competent graduates with adequate knowledge in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering so that they can serve government agencies and private industries and also be entrepreneurs.
  2. To elevate the knowledge of our graduates to take up post- graduate studies in the fields of Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science and Management studies.
  3. To inculcate in our graduates an inclination for lifelong learning contributing to personal growth and societal improvement.
  4. To build the culture of team work and effective communication ability in our graduates to solve complex engineering problems and other challenging issues.
  5. To produce engineers who can design and develop effective products those are beneficial to society and act with honesty, wisdom, courage and compassion.

FACILITIES

Laboratories

All the laboratories in the department are well equipped with the updated software and technologies so as to provide required infrastructures to carry in-house projects for final year students. Labs are well illuminated and ventilated.

Analog Electronics Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 2nd year E & E students to conduct experiments related to analog electronics circuits such as design and testing of clipper and clamper circuits, amplifiers, rectifiers etc.

Logic Design Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 2nd year E & E students to conduct experiments related to digital electronics circuits such as realization of adders, MUX/DEMUX, code convertors, decoders, different counters etc.

    • resistors

Power Electronics Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 2nd year E & E students to conduct experiments related to Power electronics circuits such as static characteristics of SCR, IGBTs, MOSFET, designing of AC voltage controller, convertors etc.

Microcontroller Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 2nd year E & E students to conduct experiments related to micro controller 8051 and MSP430 such as programming in 8051 and MSP430 using relevant software and assembler kits.

    • Computers
    • UPS
    • interfacing devices

Circuit Simulation and Measurements Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year students to conduct experiments related Electrical circuits to measure electrical parameter such as Power, Energy etc.
  • Equipments used:
    • Kelvin’s double bridge
    • D’schoty bridge
    • energy meter voltmeter
    • wattmeter
    • ammeter, CRO etc

Transformer and Induction Machines Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year students to conduct experiments related to Transformers such as Sumpner’s test, parallel operation OC and SC test etc. and related to Induction Machines

    • Wattmeters, ammeters

Control Systems Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year students to conduct experiments related Control systems such as simulation using Matlab, PID controller, AC and DC servomotors, Lag-Lead Compensation networks etc.

    • PC
    • Different modules related to control systems
    • ammeter, voltmeter, etc

DC and Synchronous machines Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year students to conduct experiments related to DC and Synchronous machines such as OC & SC test, Efficiency and regulation calculation using various tests
  • Equipments used:
    • DC and synchronous machines,
    • Wattmeters, ammeters,
    • Voltmeters etc.

CAED Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the 3rd year students to Draw DC and AC machine parts, winding diagram, single line diagram using Auto Cad software. Individually students will draw the diagrams

    • PCs and AutoCad software

Power System Simulation Lab

  • This lab is utilized by the Final year E & E students to execute programs related to Power System by using either Matlab or Mipower packages. Programs such as Y-bus formation by different methods, Analysis of ABCD constants, Load flow analysis etc. are executed individually
  • Equipment’s used:
    • Personal Computer,
    • Software package Matlab & Mipower.

Relay and high Voltage Lab

  • This lab is utilized by theFinal year students to conduct experiments related to relay and HV engineering such as characteristics of different type of relays-under voltage, over voltage, protection relay etc. Each experiment is conducted in a group of 4 members
  • Equipment’s used:
    • Different testing kits.

  • Conducive environment to conduct extracurricular and co curricular activities in the department
  • Professional bodies such as IEEE, SESI, EEEA etc. functions actively to help overall development of students.
  • Program such as soft skill training, internal training, GATE training are organized regularly for the students to meet the industrial requirements.
  • Department has Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC), which organizes technical training programs for advanced learning
  • Department also encourages the staff members to enhance their knowledge by deputing them to various workshops and conferences, organizing faculty development programs..

ACADEMIC DETAILS

Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, Karnataka. This programme covers a wide range of general engineering principles and concepts. We encourage the students to think in innovative ways, challenge existing practice and equip with the skills and confidence to make changes to industry. The faculty members have a strong sense of responsibility to provide the finest possible education for the students.

Dr. Arjun Deo, Assistant Professor and coordinator , Energy Institute Bengaluru was the Resource Person. Conducted a social activity at Carmel Convent Kannada Medium School, Infant Jesus English Medium School, Deepika Kannada Medium School, Infant Jesus Kannada Medium School, Modankapu, from 9:30AM to 4:30 PM on various Saturdays. The students were taught on how to verify their mathematical calculations using shortcuts. They were guided about the scope after 10th standard, the benefits of being a part of Indian defense and to efficiently use the scholarships available for them. Industrial visits enhance the practical knowledge of students to empower them with the recent developments in the core field and also to provide a fair idea of the work environment at the powerstation.In this concern Canara Engineering College Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering organized an industrial visit to Varahi Hydro-Electric Project - Varahi on 18th October2019 for the 3rd and 5th semester students.CEC, EEE 2019-20 3rd and 5th Sem Students with faculty During IV.The visit was aimed at enhancing the knowledge & visualization of hydroelectric power plant.Asst.Engineer at KPCL - Varahi, welcomed the students and Faculty. The blueprint of the entire powerplant along with a power generation details were explained to the students. Asst. Engineer stated thatVarahi hydro power plant has an installed capacity of 230 MW each at stage I and stage II,contributing a total of 1100 MU annually. This consists of 4 x 115 MW Generating Units at Varahi underground Powerhouse and two 4.6 MW units in the power house at the Mani Dam site. Additionally the practical aspects of SCADA control room were explained. The working of the entirepower plant which includes turbine, lubricants used, transformers, nozzle, auxiliary transformer etc. was explained in detail.The visit helped the E&E students to gain an in-depth practical knowledge on Generation,Transmission,Switchgear and Protection Devices.About 42 students with two faculty members visited power plant, learnt about different aspects of power generation in detail. Students were very happy and expressed their gratitude to college & faculty members.

Shanubhogue, Principal CEC, inaugurated AkshayUrja Divas Celebration and delivered a technical talk on “Overview of Renewable Energy Sources”. Students of our college enthusiastically participated in essay/slogan writing competitions and poster/paper presentations. Principal Prof.T.N.Shanubhogue distributed the prizes for the winners.
