Department Activities from August 2015:

  • Counseling sessions have been organized by the Student Welfare Department from time to time for needy students. Ms. Spoorthi Prabhu, Counselor from Manashanthi Counseling, Research & Training Centre, Mangalore is counseling our students. The department has conducted twelve sessions of counseling in this year for the benefit of the students.
  • A workshop was conducted by Art of Living – Happiness Program for students from 25th to 27th April (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm). Around 16 students participated in this workshop conducted by Mr. Vivek Shenoy, Teacher from Art of Living.
  • The CEO of an NGO - RESCUE, Mr. Abishek Clifford and his team visited the college on 7th April and addressed the students of 1st and 2nd year on issues such as immorality, abortion, human trafficking, mobile misuse and addiction to pornography. The talk was supported by visuals and around 960 students participated in the same.
  • A talk on "Education Risk Management in Higher Studies" was organized for students of Final year in the Seminar Hall from 10:45 am to 11:30 am on 12th March. Dr. Tuhin Banerjee from Akademia addressed the students and his team later counseled interested students on the various programs, Akademia offered for higher studies.
  • 2 students of CEC, Mr. Floyd Sequeira, III year EEE and Mr. Avinash C, Final year, Mech were shortlisted to participate in the finale of Idea Contest organized by Welingkar College, Bengaluru on 5th and 6th March, 2016. The students presented their ideas on "Smart City" concept.
  • On 27th February 2016, Mr. Hrishikesh, volunteer from Art of Living addressed the students of 1st and 2nd year in the college auditorium, on the "Happiness Program". A one hour talk was scheduled batch wise for all students from 9 am to 1 pm.
  • Al hind Tours & Travels, Mangalore put up a counter in the college campus on 25th February from 10 am to 4:30 pm to provide Passport and PAN card services to interested students, faculty & staff.
  • Art of Living "Happiness program" workshop was held on 9th, 10th and 11th December, 2015 in the ECE Seminar Hall. 16 members of faculty and staff attended the workshop.
  • Mr. Hrishikesh, volunteer from Art of Living, addressed the Faculty and Staff on Stress free teaching and living on 16th November.
  • Mr. Srikanth Prabhu, Final year, Mech and Ms. Akshatha, Final year, ECE were chosen to represent Canara Engineering College at the Inter Collegiate Debate Competition held at Sahyadri Engineering College on 29th October. This competition was organized by MRPL as part of their Vigilance Week celebrations.
  • 5 students, nominated for Gender Champion for VTU were interviewed by SWO and Principal on 29th October, 2015. Mr. Madhav Shenoy, V Sem, ECE was selected to represent the college as Gender Champion..
  • Subscription at discounted rates was initiated for students of the college by Deccan Herald newspaper. 14 students are currently subscribing to this newspaper.
  • Community Health Centre started functioning in the CEC Campus from 5th October, 2015. The Health Centre is held every Monday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, under the aegis of Fr. Muller’s Hospital, Thumbay.
  • Counselors, Ms. Sphoorthi Prabhu and Ms. Reema conducted individual sessions for 8 sections of 1st year students for an hour each on the 20th and 21st of August, 2015.
  • Dr. Rameela Shekhar addressed the students, Faculty and staff on the topic “Wholistic Wellbeing”. The session dealt with doing a self appraisal, having meaningful relationships, balance of work and fun, being ready to share in times of problems. The talk was organized on 20th August, 2015. All students of 1st year benefitted from this session.
  • A one day Orientation program was organized for students of 1st year along with their parents at T.V, Ramana Pai Convention Centre, Mangalore on the 1st August 2015. Around 407 students participated along with the parents..
  • The Student Counseling / Grievances Redressal Committee for the current academic year (2015-16) was constituted on 10th August 2015.
  • The Teacher Guardian Cell has also been formed for the Current Academic year (2015-16) and each faculty guides 15 to 20 students under them.

  • The Teacher Guardian Cell has also been formed for the Current Academic year (2014-15) and each faculty guides 15 to 20 students under them.
  • Students can reach out to the Student Welfare Department in case of grievances / complaints through the email id .
  • A Suggestion / Grievances Box installed outside the Student Welfare Department also serves as a means to redress student grievances.
  • The Student Welfare Department has been instrumental in collecting a sum of Rs. 2,00,000/- by way of contribution from the Management, Faculty, Staff and Students to meet the hospital bills of one of our students who met with an accident on 16th February, 2015.
  • The Student Welfare Department has also helped in the initiation of a Chess club in the college, at the request of students.
  • Students were able to avail the facility of applying for PAN Card or Passports through Arun Associates from 2nd to 4th March, in the college campus.
  • A talk by Mrs. Asha V. Nayak was held on the 7th of March under the aegis of the Student Welfare Department as part of Women’s Week celebrations. Mrs. Asha V. Nayak addressed the Faculty and students on legal issues and issues relating to sexual harassment.
  • On 12th of March, Dr. Ravish Thunga, renowned consultant Psychiatrist addressed Faculty and students of the college on Psychiatric problems among adolescents. The talk was well appreciated by students and faculty alike.
