ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The role of IT has evolved from supporting business to transforming them. In order to sustain in this transformation, one has to identify the market needs, introduce excellent academic processes and bench mark the outcomes as per the defined standard.

The Information Science and Engineering Department focuses on all-round development encourages a vibrant interest in academic as well as in extra curricular activities. The Department has fully equipped laboratories and well qualified and experienced staff. The Department regularly arranges seminars, workshops from Industry Experts for students as well as staff and also organizes industry visits for students. The Department offers add-on courses to cope up with the latest trends in technology. The track record of result is excellent.
Department organizes motivational talk, placement guidance, workshop & carrier guidance through prominent alumni. The faculty frequently attend the staff development program (FDP/Seminar) in Offline /Online mode to update themselves in a technological change. Departments encourage the students to participates in the extra-curricular activities under student association CiPix. Students also participates in various social outreach programs (SOP) to enhance their leadership skills, teamwork communication and awareness on a protection of environment and social responsibilities.

ACADEMIC DETAILS

Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Information Science & Engineering (IS&E) programme is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, Karnataka. The department aims at cultivating thirst for knowledge, vigor and the vision to look beyond the evident in students. The students are well versed with the exhaustive and thoroughly chosen curriculum, guided as they are by an experienced faculty. Hands on training sessions in various fields of application of IT have imparted to the students considerable acumen in the vast sector. The students perform project work as part of their curriculum to enhance their specification skills, leading to multifaceted development of their engineering concepts.

Engineering graduates in Information Science and Engineeringwill be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT (28-02-2026)

The visit started with a warm welcome by the HR team Priya, followed by an introductory session by Ms. Carol about the company’s vision, mission, and services. A technical presentation highlighted: • Cloud computing fundamentals and real-world applications • Google Cloud Platform services and how they are implemented in enterprise solutions • Application and infrastructure modernization approaches • Importance of DevOps and cloud security best practices Students were then guided through different working areas where teams involved in cloud consulting, software development, quality assurance, and support services were introduced. Representatives explained project workflows, tools used (such as cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, collaboration tools), and real case studies where cloud solutions delivered measurable impact.

Ground Realities of Waste and Environmental Challenges: A Call for Engineering Innovation (23-02-2026)

The Department of Information Science and Engineering organized an expert talk titled “Ground Realities of Waste and Environmental Challenges: A Call for Engineering Innovation” on 23rd February 2026 for the second-year ISE students. The session was delivered by Mr. Nagaraj Bajal, Project Manager, NGO Hasiru Dala. During the session, Mr. Bajal highlighted the real-world challenges faced by sanitary workers, particularly those engaged in waste collection within city limits, including apartment complexes. He emphasized the urgent need for technological interventions to ease their hardships. He encouraged students to explore innovative solutions such as the development of safety devices, IoT-based monitoring systems, and smart dustbins to improve waste segregation and overall efficiency in solid waste management. Approximately 88 students from the sixth semester of ISE actively participated in the session and expressed their commitment to contributing innovative solutions in this domain. The program was attended by faculty members Ms. Yashaswini and Mr. Stanley. The event was coordinated by Mr. Vasanth Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science and Engineering.

The session was led by Dr. Sachin S. Bhat, Founder and Managing Director, Alar Innovations Pvt. The GeekHub Club of the Department of Information Science & Engineering organized a hands-on technical session on Data Visualization using Matplotlib on 26/11/2025 from 2:10 PM onwards at LH204, exclusively for the 5th Semester B Section students of ISE, with around 10 students actively participated. The session was conducted by Ms. Sadhana, Assistant Professor, who served as the resource person. During the session, she introduced the fundamentals of Matplotlib, explaining the importance of data visualization and the structure of the pyplot module, followed by basic plotting techniques such as line graphs, axis labeling, legends, gridlines, and plotting multiple datasets. She also covered advanced visualizations including bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, pie charts, subplots, annotations, and customization of colors, styles, and markers. Further, she demonstrated 3D plotting using Axes3D with surface plots, wireframes, contour maps, and colormaps for scientific and engineering data. Practical demonstrations using NumPy arrays helped students understand real-time visualization and its applications in engineering. Overall, the session significantly enhanced students’ skills in interpreting and presenting data effectively using Matplotlib.

The Department of Information Science and Engineering, in association with GeekHub, conducted a technical session titled “Bootstrapping Python: Intro to OOP Concepts – Series 5” on 12-11-2025 at 2:00 PM onwards in LH-204, exclusively for the 5th Semester ‘B’ section students of ISE. The session was delivered by Mr. Pradeep M., Assistant Professor, Dept. of ISE, who served as the resource person. He introduced students to the fundamentals of Object-Oriented Programming in Python, explaining the core principles such as classes, objects, constructors, and methods with simple real-time examples. The session further covered key OOP pillars including inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, and abstraction in an easy-to-understand manner. Students were also guided on how OOP improves modularity, reusability, and maintainability in software development. Demonstrations included writing small Python programs to illustrate class design, method overriding, and the use of super() in inheritance. The resource person also clarified common misconceptions students face while moving from procedural to OOP thinking. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to discuss doubts and actively participate in hands-on code demonstrations. A talk on "Building positive teacher-student relationship" was organized by the Department of Information Science &Design on October 25, 2025, in association with the Department of Student Welfare, CEC Benjanapdav. This talk was organized exclusively for the 2nd-year B section students and was coordinated by Dr. Lavanya D. Kateel. The session began with an interactive discussion on the significance of teacher–student relationships in fostering academic success and emotional well-being. The resource person highlighted key elements, including mutual respect, understanding individual differences, and active listening. Participants engaged in various activities and role-plays that demonstrated effective communication strategies and ways to handle classroom challenges positively. The facilitator also shared practical tips on creating an inclusive classroom atmosphere, encouraging student participation, and providing constructive feedback. Emphasis was placed on empathy, patience, and consistent positive reinforcement to strengthen student engagement and trust.

Sathish Pai Auditorium, CEC, with the theme “Bollywood Hungama.” A total of 120 students from the 3rd semester participated in the event. Students showcased various cultural performances, and the program concluded at 4:00 PM.

AYUDHA POOJA (30-09-2025)

Ayudha Pooja was organized by the Department of ISE on 30-09-2025 by the Arts, Cultural, and Literary Committee in association with the Department of ISE. Students and faculty decorated the labs, and Saraswathi Pooja along with Ayudha Pooja was performed at 11:15 AM. Prasadam was then distributed among all the attendees.
